Best Practices: Crowdfunding for Good

Setting up a “Crowdfunding for Good Campaign” can be daunting at first. But, if you follow basic tips and best practices for crowdfunding for good, you can run a successful crowdfunding campaign that will enable you to raise money to go towards services, medications, or resources for a meaningful cause.

  1. Advance Prep- Before starting your campaign, have in place your own online public relations tool kit. To get the most out of your crowdfunding campaign, you should have social media accounts set-up, an email marketing system in place, and maybe even a blog and hashtag to further engage supporters. To hit the ground running with your crowdfunding email marketing campaign, create a few email templates in advance. This will help you avoid scrambling at the last minute.  Ideally, you’d want to set up a drip email marketing campaign that will automatically remind potential donors periodically from the time they’ve registered.
  2. First Links First- While you’re promoting your crowdfunding campaign, direct your social community straight to a link to your crowdfunding site, rather than to your website first. When potential supporters must click twice, you risking losing people after the first click.
  3. Back It Up- When crowdfunding for a cause, explain how the proceeds will improve the lives of those affected. You can do this by incorporating a personal story to your fundraising site, meaningful photos and also using statistics related to the cause. For a great example, check out Autism Speaks or Charity: Water who use statistics to tell the story behind their supported cause.
