Building A Community Of Support Around A Valuable Cause
Do you want to build a social media community that actively supports your mission? One major nonprofit had that same urgent need, and it found a way to provide its large base of volunteers with powerful new tools to raise funds more quickly and spread the word more easily. The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) leads the fight against cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder that affects 30,000 people in the United States alone, half of them under the age of 18.
Using Social Media To Wield Volunteers Into Proactive Fundraisers
For decades, CFF fought to secure resources for those afflicted to treat and – one day – cure their cystic fibrosis. It goes without saying that this is a devastating disease which causes irreparable damage to the lungs, intestines and other vital organs. The Foundation promotes awareness, accredits treatment centers, provides research grants and directly helps patients and their families.
CFF is known nationally for its major annual events, including “Great Strides” walks and hikes, golf tournaments, and dinner dances. Still, leaders knew they needed to help their volunteers create – and run! – their own events and find new ways to build networks of support to raise funds.
Crowdster: Better Tools to Build Stronger Communities
Crowdster for Non-Profits is known for its breakthrough methods of “do it yourself” fundraising. Essentially, Crowdster’s software hands the power of social media to individuals with great causes and extensive networks of friends and family. After a careful search, CFF leaders found that Crowdster’s technology not only added new peer-to-peer capabilities, but it also fit in well with their existing tools. In collaboration with Crowdster, CFF created “Passion Fundraising”, a tool which has helped thousands of spirited volunteers blaze their own paths in their support of CFF’s mission.
Passionate supporters can now create effective, professional fundraising pages that have real fundraising power within their community. First, volunteers think up and shape their own events. Then, after setting their own fundraising goals, they design a strategy to share and advertise their campaign. Volunteers can easily design and post web pages that recruit participants, process donations and foster feedback. Past successful events include a patient’s father’s “Climbing the Roof of Africa for Jennifer” campaign and a “Hicks Nordic Hike” event planned in support for a dear friend.
CFF supporters now raise funds year round! Their support for a given event or campaign is automatically posted across all leading social media outlets. This way, they more effectively communicate about their passion for supporting resources for “cystic fibrosis warriors” with their community, including family, friends and colleagues. Through them, even a large, well-established non-profit like CFF can reach a much wider network of new donors.
