Crowdster and recent partner Puppy Water Entertainment are eager to show their support for Girl Rising, a global movement aimed at breaking down social barriers that deny millions of young women and girls their education.

Girls Across The World Are Denied An Education

In July of 2016, UNESCO reported that there are 130.3 million girls out of school worldwide. This represents a gross imbalance in opportunities between boys and young men and girls and young women around the world. Millions of girls around the world face barriers to education that boys do not. What can we do to stop this?

“Removing barriers such as early marriage, gender-based violence, domestic slavery and sex trafficking means not only a better life for girls, but a safer, healthier and more prosperous world for all” (GirlRising.com). The reality is that educating girls and young women can – and does! – dissolve cyclical poverty in just a single generation. That makes improved access to education for girls one of the smartest investment opportunities anywhere in the world today.

Directed by Academy Award-nominated director Richard E. Robbins, Girl Rising’s central piece of media (also called “Girl Rising”) presents an answer to the myriad obstacles women and girls face across the world in areas of equal opportunity and access to education. The film journeys around the globe to witness the resilience and strength of the human spirit as well as the power of education to change the world. The movement demands real, global change to “create visibility for girls, spread the word, gain knowledge, and give the movement for girls’ education personal meaning.”

Crowdster Has Faith In Girl Rising’s Cause

Crowdster CEO Joe Ferraro shares, “As a father to six daughters and a missionary who supports orphans – both girls and boys – the mission of Girl Rising is critically important to me. Education is the key to breaking cycles of poverty and enabling individuals to become happy, productive, and contributing members of society.”

The movement’s website asks anyone who supports the rights of millions of young women and girls denied access to education due to cyclical, extreme poverty and pervasive sexism to “share the film with your daughters and sons, neighbors and colleagues.” That is precisely what Puppy Water plans to do – and Crowdster will help in any helpful capacity. Plans are underway to host a screening event of “Girl Rising” in Chicago, IL in August. Puppy Water is also running a parallel campaign through Crowdster to raise money for girls’ empowerment programming at Team Englewood High School in Los Angeles, as well as the greater Girl Rising movement!
